Drink Coffee Like a Tallahassee Local: 8 Coffee Shops You Can’t Miss

As we know, finding a good Cup of Joe is difficult when it comes to avoiding the big franchises, such as Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts. This season, we have decided to make it a bit easier for you. We have put together a list of handpicked coffee shops that are unique to the Tallahassee native. Check them out below!

1.     Black Dog Cafe

Black Dog Cafe is a lakefront cafe, which overlooks Lake Ella. There is an indoor and outdoor area, offering a comfortable yet cozy atmosphere. Espresso drinks are their specialty, yet they have a wide selection of tea products. The cafe shuts off Wi-Fi on the weekends here, promoting interaction between customers. Board games are dispersed throughout the cafe. Try their mocha lavender latte and take a stroll down the park at Lake Ella. Fun fact: they have another location in Railroad Square Art Park.

2.     The Power Plant Ca

The Power Plant Café, energized by Catalina Café, may be one of the cutest coffee shops in town. It is smack in the center of Cascades Park, located just below The Edison. There is a backdrop of beautiful scenery with a waterfall, greenery, and dogs all around. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. This coffee shop brings strong aromas out the door of delicious java, and casual bites. Board games are available to use, easily on display. Try the Mazagran (half lemonade, half cold brew) on your next visit, and enjoy your brew with a view. Fun fact: they have a secret menu with spiked coffee drinks.

3.     All Saints Cafe

All Saints Cafe is a local coffee shop with a hipster ambiance. Just a few minutes from FSU’s campus, the cafe is open all day, every day. It is the perfect setting for late night studying for any student when you do not want to be in the library! Vegan and vegetarian food options are available here, alongside some unique coffee drinks. Come on by and enjoy yourself a chai tea mix and vegan Nacho Mac n’ Cheese. Fun fact: leave your electronic devices when you’re in line to order – no electronics, no service.

4.     The Sweet Shop Cafe & Lounge

The Sweet Shop is an ideal coffee shop for Florida State students, located behind the back gate of Florida State’s campus on Jefferson Street. The cafe has that old-fashioned type of charm. Conveniently located, especially for English majors, it is a great spot to hang between classes, and to study. The tables are spacious and there are countless booths. Outdoor seating is also an option here, which covers you from the harmful UV rays. You can grab some food, coffees, smoothies, and boba teas here. Come by before class and grab an egg and cheese croissant sandwich with a nitro-iced coffee. Fun fact: parking may be an issue to customers not in the FSU community, but weekdays after 4:30 p.m. and weekends allow anyone to park in student/faculty parking.

5.     Lucky Goat

Lucky Goat is a Tallahassee-based roastery and is argued to be the best coffee in Tallahassee. Lucky Goat focuses on distinctive flavor profiles. The ambiance is trendy and has a chalk wall mural as a menu. This newer location in the heart of Midtown holds the same pastries and coffees as the original but now has an outside patio. Many restaurants serve Lucky Goat coffee as well, such as Canopy Road Café and Food Glorious Foods. Swing by Lucky Goat for a cup of coffee, and even take a gallon jug home for later.

6.     RedEye Coffee

Make a difference in the world and drink at RedEye Coffee. The coffee is organic and served in environmentally friendly cups. RedEye invests their tax profits from local to global causes. This coffee shop is a great place to meet up, to study, and to support global humanitarian efforts. Come in and grab a hot latte, as the baristas are talented with their coffee art.

7.     Brewd Awakening

Brewd Awakening is not your typical coffee shop; it is a Mexican restaurant and espresso bar. Open for breakfast and lunch, come and get your fix for flavorful Mexican food. Stop on by for some inexpensive, mouthwatering tacos and a signature latte, Zoe’s Revenge, consisting of white chocolate and tiramisu.

8.     Bada-Bean

Bada-Bean serves not only coffee but also breakfast. It has a mom and pops type of feel. The wait can be long, so you should come in early to get your breakfast. A perk of this place is even if you are waiting in line you can get your coffee fix in the meantime. What makes Bada-Bean so unique is the self-serve coffee bar. There is an assortment of coffee flavors. You can mix coffees together, and become your own sort of barista. Stop by and try some cinnamon roll pancakes and tropical coffee.
